Recovering chairs is one of my favourite DIY projects. It’s quick and easy to do, inexpensive, and makes such a difference. We used to have dining chairs that could be recovered. I loved changing up the fabric every now and then to completely change the look of our dining room!
We recently purchased a small desk (from Wayfair) for under the stairs. We’ve set it up with a computer that a friend gave us for the kids to use. But the fabric on our wooden chair didn’t match the new paint and decor downstairs. So I decided to recover the chair!

I first removed the seat from the chair. Next, I sanded the chair, and primed and painted it using the paint we’d been using for the trim work in the house. Chairs aren’t my favourite thing to paint because of the legs and chair back – you can’t just use a roller and be done! But it didn’t take long. I did 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of white paint. Already it looked like a different chair!

I purchased the fabric from FabricLand. It’s a nice thick, soft upholstery fabric. It was on sale, and cost less than $10. I removed the old fabric and cut a new piece the same size. Then I used a staple gun to work my way around the seat, stapling down the fabric.

It’s so easy to do; no sewing required! I attached the seat back onto the chair and voila! A completely different look for our computer desk!
